Backups and Restores
Backups can be created from cPanel -> Backups -> Download a Full Account Backup. This also creates a backup in the root folder on our server.
Restoring can be done by extracting the last backup located in the root folder of the server and moving the contents of the backup publc_html folder to the /public_html.
cPanel also has a Restore Home Directory Backup feature, but it remains untried at this time.

Domain Transfer / Service Provider Changes - A Short Story
In March of 2025 we performed a Domain transfer from an inactive member to a member-supported account. We made some mistakes along the way, which we're documenting here to avoid any future pain.
Domain transfer - this process takes 1-2 weeks, and can be accomplished by following these steps:
- Get the EPP code for the domain from the hosting service who is currently managing the domain (currently dotCanada)
- Initiate a domain transfer from your new hosting service using that EPP code
- There is a requirement that each domain registration include a valid email address, so the new hosting service user will receive an email which he must confirm before that hosting service can take control of and configure that domain
We unfortunately initially chose an email that is attached to the domain to be transferred. This was a poor choice as during the transfer, email from that domain was unavailable, so we could not do the confirmation, and the site was down for about a week while we tried to figure out what was going on. Please ensure an independent email account, like a generic Gmail account, is used instead.
